Our Experience
Greatly affected by his experience with Tokyo Ibiki Clinic, Dr Hiroki Shinohara is on a mission to make healthcare accessible globally.
There is a rule I value highly in my work: to view myself objectively. I try to understand my role and position in society and to ensure that my words and actions are not misunderstood or taken in a way I did not intend. Although this mindset has been cultivated through daily clinical practice, I always try to think from the patient’s perspective—for example, what kind of explanation from a doctor would be easy to understand, what tone of communication would inspire trust, and what patients expect from their doctors.
As healthcare professionals, we are in a position to make important decisions that affect patients’ health and daily lives. For this reason, I believe it is essential to see things from the patient’s point of view, and I approach my work with the following three principles in mind:
Empathy: It is important to understand and empathize with the patient’s pain and anxiety. I believe that recognizing their feelings and responding appropriately is essential.
Clear Communication: A doctor’s explanations and responses must always be made from the patient’s perspective. Avoiding difficult medical jargon and communicating in a clear, kind, and accessible manner is crucial.
Self-Development: It is necessary to sincerely listen to patients’ opinions and requests and maintain a mindset of continuous self-improvement. I strive to use patient feedback to provide even better medical care.
